Our autumn has already started off strong, and we're eager to finish off the year in the same way!
Workshop & Staged Reading of PLATINUM RECORD by Lindsey Twigg

We started off our October (a.k.a. Filipino American History Month) with a premiere staged reading of PLATINUM RECORD by emerging FilAm playwright Lindsey Twigg. Salamat to everyone who came out to support! Congratulations to the cast and company (pictured) to a successful premiere!

Putting on works about womxn of color, especially from WoC+ playwrights, is often met with marketing challenges and financial barriers. Grassroots and independent organizations like ours are typically the most effective in featuring marginalized voices. Your support ensure playwrights like Lindsey Twigg are heard and experienced!

Continuing our #FilipinoAmericanHistoryMonth, we'll be presenting a short piece at this year's FilAmFest in National City! "How to Ride a Jeepney" by Lindsey Twigg is a short, two-person sketch about the intergenerational sharing of Filipino culture.

Directed by Christine Nathanson, starring Molly Adea and May Esteban.

OPEN SUBMISSIONS:
Seeking Short Plays

Following the success of the FLIP side in May, MaArte has plans to produce another night of theatre! We're now accepting submissions for pieces to be fully staged for our one-night production. The theme for our next event is:

Personal Mythologies:
We are seeking to tell the stories we create for ourselves, our future generations, and our communities. What do you create to help navigate the world, spiritual or not?

We request that submissions meet the following criteria:
  • are authored by Filipino-American/Pilipinx-American/Pilipinx diaspora playwrights
  • are of varying lengths not to exceed one hour (60 min.) in length
  • are new works or works that have not had more than three (3) productions

If you are interested in submitting a piece (or more), please send a PDF copy to maartetheatrecollective@gmail.com with the "PLAY SUBMISSION" in the subject line.

We have some big plans for this year (and beyond!), and we appreciate your support.
