We have had an incredible first year. This is of course an understatement, because I believe we have been followed and supported by unbelievably strong support from our collective theatre, Asian American, and allied communities. At the time of this announcement, we are still less than one year old (our Debut was on March 12th 2018), and we have already established ourselves as a premiere Asian American theatre organization both locally and nationally. Our network of support has made our success, and we could not be more thankful. Now it’s our turn. Our supporters from all over the country (and beyond!) have breathed life into what we do, and now is the time to act on it. MaArte Theatre Collective’s sophomore year will focus on celebrating the life that lives in the Pilipinx American spirit, in a world that not only welcomes us, but fosters us. Goals for the Upcoming Year
OPEN SUBMISSIONS: Seeking Short Plays Calling all Pilipinx writers! There are myths that the world has created and perpetuated about Pilipinx-Americans and other Pinxys. There are also myths that we tell ourselves about who we are and our identity. The truth is that our stories go beyond these myths and are richly diverse and complex - in the way we see the world, connect with others, and define ourselves. It’s essential that we highlight these stories that aren’t typically told... We are searching for plays (5-40 minutes in length) and spoken word pieces that address the event theme to feature in our next showcase in Spring 2019. (Anytime between March through April). Plays should incorporate the idea of myth, whether it be the retelling or re-imagination of en existing myth or the introduction of a new one. SUBMISSION REQUIREMENTS: 1 - Stories do not have to focus on the Filipino/Pilipinx experience, but should come from a Filipino/Pilipinx-identifying writer. 2 - Write something new! We’re looking to feature work that has never been produced before. 3 - Your story must include an element of magic, fantasy, the divine, the spiritual, etc. We are accepting submissions from now until February 8th at 11:59pm. Please send them to [email protected] Donate to MaArteOur proposed calendar is not yet finalized, but we are already confirmed to be including in 2019 a fully-produced night of short plays, original, in-house productions from MaArte artists, and community outreach through charity.
Our formal campaigns for donations, sponsorships, and miscellaneous monetary support will launch closer to our event dates, but in the mean time you are free to donate to our PayPal account to assist funding for venues, artist stipends, and other necessities for our upcoming year!
